The MG Metro 6R4 was a standout contender in the Group B rally era, transforming the modest Metro into a formidable rally machine. Developed with expertise from Williams Grand Prix Engineering, it featured a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter V6 engine mounted midship, delivering approximately 410bhp. This power, combined with its four-wheel-drive system, allowed for rapid acceleration and impressive handling on diverse rally terrains. While it faced stiff competition from turbocharged rivals, the 6R4's distinctive design and engineering made it a memorable entry in rally history.
In the 1986 RAC Rally, the 6R4 was showcased in various liveries, including the notable Golden Wonder branding. This particular livery was characterized by its distinctive colors, setting it apart from other entries. Driven by Ken Wood and co-driver Peter Brown, the Golden Wonder 6R4 participated in the event, but their rally was cut short due to a timing belt failure, leading to their retirement from the race. Despite this setback, the presence of the Golden Wonder-liveried 6R4 added to the visual spectacle of the rally, further cementing the 6R4's legacy in the annals of rallying.
